Austin's Place: An Emergency Shelter for Homeless Women
Austin’s Place is an emergency shelter for women that operates solely on volunteer effort - from volunteers who stay overnight, transport guests, do laundry, make phone calls, advertise, collect donations, etc. Dedicated service meets significant needs and provides valuable support to all the guests that come through our doors. We are thankful for all the faithful volunteers who so generously give their time, energy, prayers, and financial support! Austin's Place happens because of our volunteers!
Austin's Place has been opened for 9 seasons and is the only emergency shelter for single women in Champaign County. Last season, the shelter was open from January 1, 2016 until March 14, 2016.
This season's 2016 -2017 dates will be determined after October 2016.
“In a time when so many churches choose to serve communities located in rural or suburban areas, I am inspired by First United Methodist’s local outreach commitment to serving the Downtown Champaign community. Serving this community has proven to be needed, and accepted, by those we serve.”
Cathy Koerber, Austin’s Place
