CU at Austin's Place: An Emergency Shelter for Homeless Women

CU at Austin's Place is open nightly to provide overnight shelter for women. We are open every night from 8pm-7am.

Austin's Place has been the only emergency shelter for single women in Champaign County. For twelve out of thirteen years, Austin’s Place operated solely on volunteer effort - from volunteers who stay overnight, transport guests, do laundry, make phone calls, advertise, collect donations, etc. Dedicated service meets significant needs and provides valuable support to all the guests that come through our doors. We are thankful for all the faithful volunteers who so generously give their time, energy, prayers, and financial support! Austin's Place happens because of our volunteers!

In fall of 2019, C-U at Home and Austin’s Place made the bold commitment to re-open year-round emergency shelter services in C-U by November 1st, 2020. This is a huge step of faith but we know we serve a BIG God with whom all things are possible! As we looked ahead, we wanted to ensure our friends without an address have a safe place to stay overnight and can continue to have constant contact with our ministry.

Austin’s Place officially became part of C-U at Home in June 2020. Renovations were made at the main C-U at Home location, with a new separate entrance facing Market Street, as a permanent home for Austin’s Place. Seven dorm-style rooms in the northwest part of the building provide accommodations for up to 14 women. Renovations were completed in January 2021.
The  new facility includes showers, laundry, and real beds!

Our Shelter Coordinator and support staff provide a safe and healthy atmosphere at the shelter. They also guide our friends toward other local services and opportunities for work and housing.

We appreciate the continued prayers and support and know we can’t do what we do without YOU! If you are interested in learning more about the shelter or joining our “Hope Givers” monthly giving team, please email our Executive Director, Rob, at rob@cuathome.us or visit https://www.cuathome.us/austins-place-womens-shelter/.

To God be the glory, great things He has done and will continue to do!

Besides providing beds of shelter, Austin's Place has been active in our community, advocating for those who may not have an address. Read more about it here!
